Atlas Brown Dust

Atlas Stainless Steels is a maker of stainless
products and owns a plant in Tracy, Québec
where sheets of stainless steels are rolled.
This brown dust comes from the anti-pollution
system of the melting department and has the
following general formula:

FE2O3 58%
CR2O3 14%
NIO 5.0%
MNO 7.0%
CAO 7.0%
MGO 6.0%
SIO2 3.0%
TOTAL 100%

This waste material was 170 mesh sieved.

A theoritical substitution is as follows for each 1% of the stuff :

Red Iron Oxide 0.702
Green Chromium Oxide 0.161
Black Nickel Oxide 0.031
Manganese Dioxide 0.046
Dolomite 0.092
Silica 0.014
Totals 1.046

QIT Sorelslag

QIT stands for Quebec Iron & Titanium,
it owns an ilmenite mine in northeastern
Quebec; the ore is shipped to Tracy where
it is processed to titanium dioxide slags, iron pigs,
steel billets and steel auto parts.

Sorelslag has the following general formula:

TiO2 82%
FeO 8.0%
SiO2 2.0%
Al2O3 3.0%
MgO 5.0%
Total 100%

This stuff was 170 mesh sieved.

A theoritical substitutions is as follows for each 1% of the stuff :

QIT –Fer et Titane du Québec possède une
énorme mine d'ilménite dans le nord-est
québecois. Le minerai est transporté par
navire sur le fleuve St-Laurent jusqu’à Tracy
où il est transformé en scories bioxyde
de titane, fonte, billettes en acier et
pièces automobiles entre autres.
